Job Description We are looking to enhance the GIS consulting capacity of the Advocacy and Research Support team within LSA Information Technology. The specific role we are seeking to fill is that of Computer Consultant I, and your primary responsibility will be to assist LSA researchers with their GIS needs. The job will include utilizing a broad range of GIS software and solutions available to LSA researchers, such as ArcGIS for Desktop, ArcGIS for Server, ArcGIS Online, Story Maps, and Collector and Explorer for ArcGIS, as well as other non-ESRI GIS apps and applications (e.g., QGIS, GIS Pro, iGIS). You will regularly meet with faculty, staff, and graduate students who are in need of GIS expertise to enable their research. Your primary responsibilities will include gathering and documenting requirements, design, analysis, selection, and implementation of solutions, and communicating and collaborating with researchers at all stages of a project. This is a part-time position and we are looking for a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week; higher workloads may be possible, additional hours per week. Enhance your communication skills as you gather and document requirements from and disseminate solutions and outcomes to LSA researchers.
Job Requirements The job requirements that are necessary include: 1) Recent GIS experience, either coursework or on the job, primarily with ESRI’s suite of ArcGIS software; 2) Eager and agile learner to accommodate the wide variety of research projects and researchers’ experience with GIS; 3) Strong written and communications skills, including the ability to explain and document your work for audiences with varying levels of GIS expertise; and 4) Able to think critically, and troubleshoot difficult problems independently and as part of a team. Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in the following areas: 1) Python, JavaScript, HTML, Java, Visual Basic, .NET, or web services as they pertain to ArcGIS; 2) Experience developing applications for mobile operating systems and devices, such as iOS, Android, or Windows Mobile; and 3) Familiarity with field research methodology in natural and social science domains.
